This Week: My take on the trend of glucose monitoring for people without diabetes, and why obsessing over glucose is risky for all of us. May 15, 2023 I'm still in promo mode for my new book, The Wellness Trap, but I finally have time to answer the reader question I've been trying to do for the past few weeks! Last Saturday I did an awesome event with chef and cookbook author Julia Turshen, where we cooked a delicious pasta dish and ate together and talked about my book(s). It was so lovely...

This Week: How to recognize wellness scams, plus more book news. May 8, 2023 This past week has continued to be packed with work related to my new book, The Wellness Trap, so I bring you yet another slightly disorganized look at what's been going on for me. I was also going to attempt to answer a reader question, but I ran out of time, so I will try to do that next week! First, some non-book news: I haven't talked much about my courses here lately, but I'll be doing a live Zoom Q&A for...

This Week: Dispatches from The Wellness Trap's first week, and answering a new genre of questions. May 1, 2023 The past week has been bananas for me, with lots going on for the release of my new book, The Wellness Trap (which is why you're getting this email at a random time of day instead of the usual Monday-morning missive). This Week: My new book is out tomorrow, and I'm a bundle of nerves! April 24, 2023 My new book, The Wellness Trap, comes out TOMORROW!!! And I'm a bundle of nerves! I will be using many more exclamation points than usual for the forseeable future!! Today is the last day for preorders, and I'd be so grateful if you preordered the book, if you haven't already. I know I keep harping on this, but preorders are the best way to support authors and books, helping them reach the widest possible...

This Week: More book news, plus a few of my top tips for spotting a wellness scam. April 17, 2023 My book The Wellness Trap comes out next week!!!!! If you haven’t had a chance to preorder it yet, there’s still time! Preorders are hugely helpful for showing bookstores there’s a demand for a book, and they also count toward the first week’s sales and the potential to get on bestseller lists, so I would be incredibly grateful if you’d consider preordering the book this week. Plus, if you buy it...

This week: Some of the reasons I decided to do a deep dive into wellness culture, plus a conversation about the long shadow of clean eating. April 10, 2023 Episode 5 of Rethinking Wellness is available now, and it’s a great one! Nutritionist and author Laura Thomas joined me to discuss what it’s like for kids living in the long shadow of clean eating, the “almond mom” trend on TikTok, the “wellness to woo pipeline,” how parents and caregivers can let go of wellness-culture beliefs about food...

This week: Why diets recommended in some fitness circles are about looks, not strength. Plus: pre-order bonuses and a giveaway of The Wellness Trap. April 3, 2023 It’s now officially publication month for The Wellness Trap, which means lots of book news to share! A big box of hardcovers arrived at my door the other day, and they’re even more gorgeous in person than I expected (though my middling photography skills don’t do them justice in the image below). We also have some great events...

This week: Three years into the pandemic, the link between Covid and BMI is still tenuous, and the science still shaky . March 27, 2023 In this week’s episode of Rethinking Wellness, religious-studies scholar and author Alan Levinovitz (Natural and The Gluten Lie) joins us to discuss the problems with framing eating and wellness practices as “natural,” the weird parallels between gun culture and wellness culture, the tricky balance between empathizing with why people are driven to harmful...

This week: If you're ready to get back into movement but don't want it to turn into a whole diet-culture thing, read this. Plus: get early access to my new podcast. March 20, 2023 I’m thrilled at the response to last week’s launch of my new podcast, Rethinking Wellness. Thanks to everyone who subscribed, it debuted at #10 on Apple Podcasts’ Health & Fitness charts in the U.S. (and apparently reached #1 in several other countries). I try not to put too much stock in these kinds of numbers and...

My new podcast, Rethinking Wellness, launches today! March 13, 2023 I'm thrilled to finally be able to announce the launch of my new podcast, Rethinking Wellness!
